Does it hurt if my lawn mower or my vehicle drives over the sprinkler heads?

Lawn mowers do not have enough weight to usually do any damage to your sprinkler heads. All of your sprinkler heads should be installed on flex pipe which does help prevent damage. Initially it would be a good idea to watch your sprinkler heads for two reasons. 1. All of your sprinkler heads rely on a strong spring to retract them back down into the ground. Sometimes small pieces of sand, gravel, and tree limbs can cause your sprinkler to slightly stick up and in return can be caught by a lawn mower, If this happens simply grab the sprinkler head, lift it up and let it go for it to retract. This should release whatever is causing the head to not retract. This is not a common occurrence, but it can happen. 2. Your new sprinkler heads are packed in with rubber mallets to prevent them from moving. All heads should be level or approximately 1/2″ above the ground. Occasionally the movement of the soil will alllow the sprinkler head to lift up, protruding above the ground. If this happens, the sprinkler head is subject to damage. This is fixed by pushing back down on the head and packing it back in tight. Remember your sprinkler heads are on 1/2″ flex pipe and will move freely without damage.

Why do some of my sprinkler heads continue to leak water even after my system has shut off?

Due to the effects of gravity, any sprinkler heads that are at the end of the system or the last head on a slight slope, water may continue to drain until the water falls below the sprinkler head. At this point the automatic drain will kick in and the water should stop draining after several minutes. If the water continues to drain for longer than several hours, there could be a problem.

What are the green lids in my yard?

These are the valve box lid covers for your sprinkler valves. These boxes provide access to your automatic valves for future service. You have the option of either letting the grass grow over them or weed eating around them. Rainmaker Sprinkler Co. does have a valve locator for locating these valves at a later date.

Are my sprinkler heads adjusted to water my lawn and landscape properly?

Your new sprinkler system was initially adjusted to provide maximum water coverage for your lawn and landscape, although they might need fine tuning from time to time.

Why does my sprinkler system continue to run after completing a program?

The most common mistake is there will be multiple start times for the same time. This means that your controller will think that it has missed a start time and will run multiple times in a row. Remember that you only need one start time in order to start up your system unless you would like for it to water more than once a day.
